Review: FreeHand Mei Tai

April 1, 2010

Please allow me to introduce you to our new favorite baby carrier:

The FreeHand Mei Tai!

This review could not have come at a better time for us!  Baby O is just about 10 months old now(!), and I’ve been thinking about expanding our baby-wearing repertoire to back-carrying.  As I’ve mentioned before, we have several baby carriers.  I’ve been interested in trying a back carry, but didn’t feel comfortable giving it our first go until we had something I felt would be absolutely secure.  Enter the FreeHand Mei Tai from Together Be!

We used the FreeHand Mei Tai in the front carry position for some time before trying the back carry.  I was smitten with this carrier from the very first time we tried it on.  The FreeHand MT feels super secure and is oh so cozy for both Mama and Baby.  The straps are wide and padded over the shoulders.  There is also some padding along the top of the main panel for added baby head and neck comfort.  The main panel is large and wide enough at the bottom to provide adequate leg and hip support for Baby O (fabric spreads out under his knees, not mid-way through his thighs).  The Mei Tai is easy to get on and I can wear Baby O like this for quite some time before feeling tired at all.

When we were ready to try a back-carry, I asked B to spot me and gave it a try.  Success!  Getting Baby O into a back-carry position with this Mei Tai is simple.  It feels secure the whole time and I think Baby O enjoys this new view of the world!  Getting Baby O on my back allows me to have my hands free to do things I can’t do with him in a front-carry, like wash the dishes.  It’s also great for longer walks when we’re out and about.

Together Be offers their Mei Tai in a variety of gorgeous patterns.  Our Mei Tai is the Harriet.   The craftsmanship is truly impressive and it really is beautiful!

So, let’s talk baby-wearing!  What is your favorite way to carry?
