Review & Give-Away: Sensi-Clean

September 28, 2009

While B and I were doing our cloth diaper research, one of our big questions was how to properly wash our cloth diapers.  I knew using the wrong detergent would cause the diapers to repel moisture, lose wicking properties, leak, and cause diaper rash.  We certainly want to avoid all that!  In our research, we kept coming across Sensi-Clean by Atsko.

Sensi-Clean is an irritation-free detergent great for anyone who wants to avoid chemicals,  people with sensitive skin, babies, delicates, and cloth diapers!  Sensi-Clean launders clothing without leaving any residue behind to irritate skin, cause rashes, and redness.  It is completely free of dyes, fragrance, phosphates, oxidizers, color, fluorescent whiteners, lubricants, bleach, or fabric softener.  Many detergents claim to be pure or “free” when really they are not, as they often contain brighteners.  If you’ve ever used a “free” detergent on your cloth diapers and then found them leaking, this is probably why.

Also known as Sports Wash, Sensi-Clean helps wickables wick and breathable-waterproof fabrics, such as the PUL on a cloth diaper, breathe.  This is exactly what anyone who uses cloth diapers is looking for!  It’s also gentle enough to use everyday,  even on delicates, including wool, silk, and baby clothes.  It is biodegradable and septic safe as well!

We use Sensi-Clean every couple of weeks as our preferred way to “strip” our diapers.  We just put it in the wash in place of our everyday detergent and it works like a charm.  The only thing I do differently when stripping the diapers is add a hot wash. It’s easy, quick, and it works!

We’ve also used Sensi-Clean on our hand-washables and regular laundry.  Baby O has not had any reactions after his clothes have been laundered in Sensi-Clean.  I was pleasantly surprised to find what I thought were permanent stains on my shirts to be gone.  This is good news since I’m always dropping food and spilling coffee on my clothes!

The folks at Sensi-Clean have graciously offered one bottle, 34 wash loads, of Sensi-Clean to one lucky reader.  They’re also offering free samples to everyone!  To request a sample, call Sensi-Clean at 1-800-845-2728 and they will send you one for free!  Be sure to tell them Carrie from Oh Baby O sent you!

I learned that Sensi-clean doesn’t leave any chemical residue on laundry.

From Sensi Clean’s website I learned that there’s a way to actually test “free” detergents for brightening dyes by exposing them to black light, making it visible if there’s any residue. Super useful.

I am so going to try this…. “You can test this yourself by exposing any “Free” detergent to black light. If it glows then it contains FWA brightener dye”

I’ve never heard of this detergent but I’m willing to give it a try! that black light trick on the website is really neat
